Setting - Initial ideas

Alleyway/underpass

We would like to use an alleyway in our production because it would have the correct lighting for our film. In our trailer research, there is use of an underpass in "The Girl on the Train" trailer. This underpass is used to create an uneasy and dark sense in the trailer because of the secrecy of the location and connotes the sense of unknown and potential for criminal behaviour. We will attempt to recreate these connotations in our own trailer with use of an alleyway because not only does this fit conventions, but it is also a location which is easy to access and private enough to film undisturbed and because of no disturbances there will be no issues with continuity.

Roadside

We would like to use the roadside in our production because the traffic would be very useful for a transition in our production. We have had some practice using iMovie and the use of traffic for fades in and out are very effective. Furthermore, the lights from the traffic give very dim lighting in the dark at the roadside and mean we can maintain the connotations of darkness and mystery surrounding the main antagonist of the film by withholding his identity.

Loft/Cellar

We would like to use a loft or cellar in our production because it is a location which would be suited to filming a captive so that they appear to be somewhere which is unknown and unfamiliar to them, further contributing to the element of fear through being held captive. A loft is also in a location which is very remote and difficult to get out of while being held, this means the location would make sense as to why nobody has come to help the girl, why she is unable to escape and also why nobody knows she is there.

Playground

In our production we intend to maintain the element of mystery as well as the potential mental instability and insecurity of the main antagonist in our production. This means that the subtle use of a playground or some form of location relative to childhood that involves the kidnapping of the girl could help to signify that the antagonist has the motive of not being loved in early life, therefore he is not familiar with the concept of love and cannot see the error of his ways.
